Wilbur O'Neal Obituary

Mr. Wilbur O'Neal Jr., of Woodbridge, Va., departed this life Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at his home.

He was born to the late Wilbur and Grace McKinnon O'Neal on Dec. 14, 1954, in Petersburg, Va. He was preceded in death by a sister, Carol O'Neal. Wilbur was educated in the Petersburg, Va., school system and graduated from Virginia State College, now University, in 1978. He retired from Giant Inc. as a human resource manager after 32 years of service. He was a former member of the Petersburg Jaycees and enjoyed youth basketball programs.

He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife, Angela M. O'Neal; a daughter, Kacie O'Neal; and a son, Wilbur O'Neal III; one brother, Dwain O'Neal (Nora) of Chesterfield, Va.; two sisters, Sharon O. Sample (Leroy) of Hopewell, Va., and Gayle O'Neal of Chester, Va.; mother-in-law, Marilyn M. Simmons of Chillum, Md.; three nephews, Daryl Sample, Nicholas Sample, both of Hopewell, Va., Roscoe Moon of San Diego; two nieces, Nicole Sample of El Paso, Texas, Felicia Moon of Henrico, Va.; and a host of devoted relatives and friends.

A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 18410 Chapel Drive, Triangle, VA 22172. Interment will follow at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, at Dinwiddie Memorial Park, Dinwiddie.

Arrangements entrusted to the staff of William N. Bland & Son Funeral Home, Petersburg.

Dearest Angie and Family. Lou and I just heard today about Wilbur's passing. We are so sorry to hear of your loss. Our prayers go out to you and your family. They say to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Though this may not hold a lot of comfort in the loss of your loved one at this moment I believe that God's peace will carry you through. I pray much for the entire O'Neal family. I was a classmate of Wilbur's(PHS 73). He was a fun loving, special person and a good friend. I know our entire class has fond memories of him.
