William Alexander Archie V, of 22201 Jordan Heights Drive in Petersburg, Va., passed peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011.

He was the son of the late William Archie IV and the late Dorothy Walker Archie of Greenwood, S.C. William Alexander Archie V accepted Christ into his life at an early age at Macedonia Baptist Church and was a member of Zion Baptist Church of Petersburg, Va.
He attended Greenwood Public Schools, graduating from Brewer High School in 1968. He attended Clemson University in Clemson, S.C., where he studied textile chemistry and graduated in 1972. While working on his master's at Clemson, he started working for Fiber Industries in 1973. He was later hired at Allied Signal in Chester, Va., in 1979, where he worked at the Technical Center until his retirement from Allied Signal (Honeywell) in 2000. He served on the Petersburg Public Schools' School Board for six years and served as the chairman for one year. He received a master's in education for administration in 2007. He later began a second career as a science teacher in the Petersburg Public Schools and Henrico Public Schools, and retired in 2011. He was an avid golfer, and he loved to fish.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 39 years, Vera Scott Archie of the home; daughters, Kristin Gore (Julian) of Chesterfield, Va., Myesha Archie and Melanie Archie of Petersburg, Va.; a niece who was raised in the home, Elizabeth Rasheed of Richmond, Va.; grandsons, Gabriel and Paul Gore of Chesterfield, Va.; brother, Jeremiah Archie (Lucy) of Easley, S.C. He also leaves to cherish his memories two sisters, Penelope Archie of Greenville, S.C., and Jeanine Archie of Atlanta; sister-in-law, Vivian Archie;, and an aunt, Dora Chenault of Stone Mountain, Ga. Survivors also include a host of other caring family members and friends.
A service of love and remembrance will be held at Zion Baptist Church at 255 Byrne St. in Petersburg, Va., at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, 2011.
