William Ragsdale Obituary

William Ragsdale Sr., 93, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Monday, Nov. 15, 2010.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert W. and Fannie Giles Ragsdale.

Mr. Ragsdale is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Helen Deal Ragsdale; two sons, William Ragsdale Jr., Dane W. Ragsdale and his wife, Anne; three grandchildren, Michelle Sommardahl and her husband, David, William Preston Ragsdale and his wife, Jennifer, Charles D. Ragsdale; four great-grandchildren, Hallie, Grayson, Anna and Ellie Sommardahl; and other family and friends.

Mr. Ragsdale retired from the U.S. Navy in 1959, where he served his country proudly in World War II and was a Pearl Harbor survivor on board the USS Utah. After retiring from the Navy, he went to work for the Firestone Plant in Hopewell, where he retired as a power house supervisor after numerous years of service.

A graveside service will be held 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, at Southlawn Memorial Park in Prince George, Va. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Colonial Heights Rescue Squad P.O. Box 3401, Colonial Heights, VA 23834, or the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058.
