Mr. William Shaw of 201 Harrison St., Petersburg, entered eternal rest and peace on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, at Golden Living Center – Walnut Hill in Petersburg.

He was born on May 3, 1929, to the late General Shaw Sr. and Sullar McCrea Shaw in Kingstree, S.C. He was preceded in by: his six brothers, Robert, Prince Sr., General Jr., Herman, Israel, and Baby Shaw; and one grandchild.

Mr. Shaw was a faithful, active and dedicated member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church in Petersburg, where he served in the following ministries until his health declined: the male usher board, trustee board, senior ministry and pastor's partners. He had several occupations including an electrician and carpenter by trade. He served as a church sexton for over 40 years at Good Shepherd Baptist Church where he retired on his birthday, May 3, 2013.

He leaves to cherish his precious memory: three children, Lorenzo "Son" Shaw (Joyce Ann) of Durham, N.C.; Sharon Shaw of Greensboro, N.C., and Tonya Lindsey (Michael) of Raleigh, N.C.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Geneva Burgess of Kingstree, S.C., and Vivian Morris (Oliver) of Durham, N.C.; three brothers, Isaac and Phillip, both of Durham, N.C., and Arthur (Myrtle) of Bronx, N.Y.; two sisters-in-law, Beatrice of Baltimore, Md., and Shelia of Durham, N.C.; a beloved nephew who was raised with him as a brother, Theopolis Shaw (Johnnie Mae) of Durham, N.C., and host of nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends to include his extended family, the Outlaws family of Petersburg; a devoted and dear friend, Sharine Outlaw of Petersburg; four godchildren, Shequita S. Mitchell, Quen'taisas Scott Mitchell, Jermaine Sample Jr., all of Petersburg, and Terrence Outlaw Sr. of Dinwiddie; three devoted church family members, James Coles, Hugee Cooper and Howard Williams, all of Petersburg, also among the devoted friends, Catherine Velvet and the Briggs family, all of Petersburg.

The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff of the Golden Living Center Walnut Hill of Petersburg.

Services for Mr. William Shaw will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan, 4, 2014, at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 2223 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, the Rev. Jeffrey L. Reaves Sr., pastor, eulogist. Entombment to follow at Southlawn Memorial Park.

Honorary and active pallbearers are asked to assemble at 10:30 a.m. at the church.
