Deacon William "Richard" Tucker, 92, of 21613 Flatfoot Road, Stony Creek, Va., departed this life on Friday, July 6, 2012, at the Golden Living Center (Battlefield Park), Petersburg, Va.

He was born Feb. 8, 1920, to the late Steven and Annie (Jones) Tucker and was the last survivor of 18 children.

At an early age, Deacon William accepted Christ as his personal savior and began his journey of fulfilling God's work as a faithful servant. William was ordained as a deacon of the Little Bethel Baptist Church Stony Creek, Va.

He was a decorated veteran, having served in WWII. Deacon William retired from Stone Container Company, Hopewell, Va., after 30 years of service. He was also employed in the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Until his declining health, Deacon William remained a loyal and dedicated member of the LBBC. Among other duties, he served as the church's sexton for many years.

Deacon William was a member of the Democratic Committee (Dinwiddie Chapter), NAACP, Masons Progressive Mens Club and the VFW.

Deacon William was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Mildred (Helen) Tucker.

Deacon William was affectionately called "Bill" and "Tuck". He possessed a calm, loving spirit and never waivered on his love for his family.

He leaves to cherish his memory his caring children: daughters, Camilla Smith (James), Pamela Seaborne (Joseph), Paula Thornton (William), Bithia; son, Fabian Tucker (Bonita); brother-in-law, Percy Owens (Catherine); and sister-in-law (Lorine); grandchildren, Rahkeem Seaborne (Angela), Kinisha Smith, Levar and Justin Thornton, Coty Anderson, Amber and Fabian Tucker; several great-grandchildren, RaShad and Amya Seaborne, Jaliyah Hairston, Anaiya and Jayden Thornton; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a special godson, Ryan Owens.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of the Golden Living Center and Hospice for their exceptonal care and services provided.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 10, 2012, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Jones-Peace Funeral Service Inc., 13013 Park Avenue, Stony Creek, Va.

Celebration of life service for Deacon William Tucker will be conducted 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at Little Bethel Baptist Church, the Rev. David L. Banks Sr. officiating. Family and friends are asked to assemble at 21613 Flatfoot Road, Stony Creek at 10 a.m. Interment will immediately follow at the Tucker family cemetery.

The family is receiving relatives and friends at the residence of Camilla Smith, 804-733-4236; and Pamela Seaborne 804-733-8239.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the staff of Jones-Peace Funeral Service, 13013 Park Ave., Stony Creek, Va., 434-246-3171.
