On March 6, 2014, Willie Mae Hardy Harris, 87, of 8004 Claystreet Road, Ford, went from labor to eternal rest at her residence. She was the daughter of the late McKinley Brown and Blanche Hardy. She was also preceded in death by: her husband, Linwood Harris Sr.; her daughter, Blanche Mae; and son, Earl E. Harris.

Willie Mae joined and was baptized at an early age at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Ford. She was a faithful member of the usher's ministry, treasurer of the education fund, and the church sexton. She was active in the Springhill Usher's Union Ministry, and the Jolly Sunshine Senior Group until her declining health.

She was a member the Sunbeam Poplar Grove Chapter #130 Order of the Eastern Stars P.H.A. serving in the capacity of Past Worthy Matron.

She retired from the former Colonial Heights Convalescent Center (Colonial Heights Healthcare Center) and previously worked for the Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company, Camp Pickett (Fort Pickett) and the Children's Home of the Virginia Baptist.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her sons, Linwood Harris Jr. (Rebecca) and Richard Lee Harris (Janet); and daughter, Frances Trent; daughter-in-law, Shelia Harris; former daughter-in-laws, Shirley Harris & Sherita Harris; former son-in-law, Wayne Trent; sister-in-law, Betty Seay (Richard) and Virgie Bland; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren; a host of cousins; nieces; nephews; friends; and neighbors. A very special thanks to her devoted caregivers, Janet Torrence, Ethel Wheat, Shirley Harris and Hospice of Virginia.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2014, at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Ford, with the pastor, the Rev. Dr. Joseph B. Fields Sr., officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Family and friends may visit at the home of Mrs. Harris and by calling 804-265-8128 and her son, Linwood Harris Jr. residence at 12603 Ruth Hill Road, Church Road and by calling 804-265-5848.

A public viewing will be today from 10 a.m. 8 p.m. at the Petersburg Chapel. Family will assemble at 12:30 p.m. at the residence for the procession on the day of the service.
