Mr. John Phillip Lee Jr., affectionately known as "Phillip," of 1723 W. Clara Drive, Petersburg, formerly of 1012 High Pearl St., departed this life on Monday, Sept. 9, 2013.

John was born May 7, 1962, in Petersburg, to the late John P. Lee Sr. and Annie C. Lee.
He was baptized at an early age at Oak Street A.M.E. Zion Church. He later attended the Bermuda Hundred Baptist Church, Chester, with his family.
John was educated in the Petersburg Public School System and he graduated with the Petersburg High School, class of 1981. While in high school, he played football with Petersburg Crimson Wave from 1978 through 1980. After graduating high school, Phillip continued his education at Howard University in Washington and play football with the mighty "Bison". Phillip was a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. After graduating from Howard University, Phillip served two years in the United States Army. He was employed at Poplar Springs of Petersburg, MPW of Hopewell and the Petersburg Public School System as a special education instructor.
He loved spending time with his family, talking to people and football.
He leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted and loving wife, NiKisha L. Wilson-Lee; two loving sons, John Phillip Lee III (his pride), and Herchel Wyche (Tawana), his joy; daughter, A'Chyna "Chi-Chi" Kayani Lee (baby girl); loving stepdaughters who he raised as his own, Quannekwa N. Shuford and Tedra Parham; granddaughter, Kimora Wyche; a loving and devoted brother, Bryant C. Lee (Christine); a loving sister, Stephanie Hargrove (Bobby) of Columbia, S.C.; one aunt, Rose Wyatt of White Plaines, N.Y.; four great-aunts, Mary Briggs, Gertrude Bailey, Bertha White and Fanny Smithson; loving and devoted mother-in-law, Beverly L. Wilson; father-in-law, Woodrow Wilson; one niece, Sierra A. Hargrove of South Carolina; two nephews, Breon Lee of Virginia Beach and Andrius Harris; godmother, Francine "Gin" Cole; extended family to include, Monique Lewis-Jones (Roc), Scarlette, Ricky and Lamont Hunley, the Cole family, Julia "His Granny" Cole, Mary Watson, Richard Massenburg (first coach); very devoted friends to include: Tyrone "Shakey" Prather, Kirby Williams, Stewart Patterson, David Batts, Bobby Ruffin, Donald "01Duck" Jackson, Richard Leach, Victor Leach, Victor Harvell, Kent "Flav" Phelps, Deborah Mason, Michael Kates, Marvin Sweeney, and the delectable heights – Blandford community 5th Ward, and a host of other relatives; and friends to numerous to name.
Funeral service for Mr. John Phillip Lee Jr. will be held at 12 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at Gillfield Baptist Church, 209 Perry St., Petersburg, the Rev. Dr. George W. C. Lyons, pastor, and the Rev. Michael Stith, pastor of First Baptist Church – Bermuda Hundred, eulogist. The interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
