Ms. Banzella Hawkins, 70, of Petersburg, was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, Sept. 13, 2013. Born Dec. 19, 1942, to the late Paul and Marion Hawkins.

Banzella was formerly of Littleton, N.C. She was educated in the Halifax County, N.C., public schools. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. Before her declining health, she was employed by Johnson's Cleaners for many years.

Affectionately known to all, Ms. Peaches had a passion for bingo, which was only surpassed by her love for family and friends. With each look in her eye and smile on her face, we could always tell what she was thinking.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: nine brothers; three sisters; and a grandchild.

She leaves to cherish her life: four children; Ella, Cyrethia, Stevenson, and Tequane; 10 grandchildren, Yolanda, Nikita, Tiara, Asia, Demetria, Kayla, Teshawn, J'Kwan, Corjae and J'Ohnna; nine great-grandchildren, Ron'Nika, Arkell, Franklin, Valencia, Chappel, Nishe, Teahjhe, Ta'Shyiah; two sisters, Alma and Elsie; one brother, Milton, all of North Carolina; one aunt, Mattie Johnson of North Carolina; one brother-in-law, John; two sisters-in-law, Gwendolyn and Beluah; a godson, Steve, and a host of nieces; nephews; relatives; and friends, among them devoted, Sabrina Hawkins, Michael Alston, Moshe Castelle, Rosa Mae Johnson, James Harris and Tommie Sims.

A funeral service for Ms. Banzella Hawkins will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at the chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, the Rev. Jeffrey L. Reaves Sr., pastor of Good Shepherd Baptist Church, Petersburg, eulogist. The interment to be held at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at 445 Harding St., Petersburg.
