Mrs. Denise Ann Rawlings Smith, 45, of 122 Griggs St. Petersburg, entered into eternal rest on Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at Southside Regional Medical Center Petersburg.

She was born in Petersburg to the late Mary Frances Mason Rawlings and Joseph Thomas Rawlings Sr. She was educated in the Petersburg Public School System. Denise was a member of the Trinity Missionary Baptist Church of God In Christ, Petersburg.
She was preceded in death by: her mother, Mary Frances Mason Rawlings; brother Tony L. Mason; sisters, Felice Y. Rawlings and Michelle E. Rawlings; grandparents, Jerome and Valnora Mason.
Denise leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Ricky Smith of Petersburg; two sons, Ricky Rawlings and Malki Rawlings; two daughters, Lanesha L. Rawlings and Shaniqua Y. Rawlings, all of Petersburg; father, Joseph Thomas Rawlings Sr. of Colonial Heights; two brothers, Ronald Mason and Joseph T. Rawlings Jr. (Deirdra), both of Petersburg; one sister, Cassandra Rawlings of Colonial Heights; three grandchildren, Shamerah Thorpe, Janiyahh Parham and James Parham; six aunts, Lucille Coleman (Gerald) of Chesterfield, Rebecca Pritchett (Edward) of Petersburg, Martha Burton (Garland), Vanessa Mason, Crystal Mason and Tina Simmons, all of North Carolina; three uncles, Rev. Robert Rawlings (Barbara) of Ettrick, the Rev. Yvonne Rawlings of Richmond and Henry Mason of Petersburg; five sisters-in-law, Geraldine Martin (George) of Sussex, Viola Spratley (William) and Ruby Spelman (Jamie), both of Wakefield, Elaine Morgan (Wayne) and Dorothy Westbrook, both of Petersburg; four brothers-in-law, Emil Smith of Courtland, John Smith of Emporia, David Smith and Andre Smith (Edith), both of Petersburg; and a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Denise A. Rawlings Smith will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church Of God In Christ, 233 Halifax St., Petersburg, the Rev. Jeffrey L. Dodson Sr., pastor, and the Rev. Robert Rawlings officiating. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. Viewing will be one hour prior to service.
Public viewing will be today, Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m. at J. L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment, 25824 Greensville Ave., Petersburg (North Dinwiddie County).
The family is receiving relatives and friends at the residence, 122 Griggs St., Petersburg, and is also asking relatives and friends to assemble there on the day of the service at 1 p.m.
