Lucille C. Tatum, 94, of Petersburg, passed away on Feb. 11, 2014, at the Dunlop House in Colonial Heights.

Born in Chesterfield County, she was the daughter of the late Hattie Vernon Crostic and Walter D. Childress; and was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Tatum Sr.; three brothers, Frank G. Childress, Thomas L. Childress and Walter D. Childress; and two sisters, Thelma Wade and Margaret Mannerburg. Mrs. Tatum was a longtime member of Elm Street Baptist Church, and since its closing, had been under the watch care of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She was the owner and operator of a beauty salon that she ran in her home for many years. Mrs. Tatum loved to work in her flower beds, and take vacations going to the beach.
She is survived by her two sons, Thomas E. "Ed" Tatum Jr. and wife, Nancy, of Colonial Heights, Jerry F. Tatum and wife, Lois, of Prince George; four grandchildren, Thomas E. "Tom" Tatum III and wife, Lori, Michael P. Tatum and wife, Tamara, Jon Wesley Tatum, and Lea T. Rowsey and husband, Chris; four great-grandchildren, Catherine A. Tatum, Megan E. Tatum, Michael P. Tatum Jr. and Madelyn D. Tatum; one sister, Leona C. Whelan of Petersburg; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. Andrew Brockleman officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, Va. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Crater Community Hospice, 3916 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, VA 23805.
