Ms. Geraldine Davis Martin, 62, affectionately called "Ms. Deana," departed this life on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk, Va.

She was born Jan. 16, 1952, to the late Luther Wiggins Sr. and Irene Davis Smith, but she was raised by her late grandparents, Thomas Davis Sr. and Wilsie Davis. She was also the "twin cousin" to Barbara Hunter of Chesterfield, Va. Geraldine was educated in the Sussex County Public School System.

Geraldine at an early age joined the Wilborne Baptist Church in Waverly, Va. She worked at the Walnut Hill Convalescent Home (now known as Golden Living Center) for many years until her health declined.

Geraldine was a kind, gentle, soft spoken, loving and caring person who welcomed everyone she encountered. She had a heart of gold. Geraldine was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She enjoyed bingo, playing cards and family gatherings.

Geraldine was preceded in death by a brother, Luther Wiggins Jr., and a sister, Joyce Smith.

She leaves to cherish her fond memories, one devoted daughter, Earline W. Massenburg and son-in-law, Terry D. Massenburg, of Waverly; three sons, Connell D. Whiting of Waverly, Terrance T. Davis of Petersburg and Taft L. Martin of Richmond; one adopted daughter, Deliska Spain of Hopewell; nine grandchildren whom she loved dearly; four sisters, Viola Spratley (William) of Dendron, Elaine Morgan (Wayne) and Dorothy Westbrook, both of Petersburg, and Ruby Spillman (Jamie) of Wakefield; five brothers, Emil Smith of Waverly, John Smith of Waverly, Andre Smith (Edith Gilliam) and Ricky Smith, both of Petersburg, and David Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, among them Carolyn Tillman and Richard Evans.

Services for Ms. Geraldine Martin will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at the Chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, Va.; Dr. Ronnie Martin, eulogist. Interment to follow at Blandford Cemetery.
