Mrs. Gloria Dean "Brown" Barlow was born July 17, 1933, in Petersburg, Va., to the late Ginny Bell Fitzgerald and Arie Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Robert Nelson Barlow.

She is survived by her sons, Cornell A. Barlow (Vivian Patrice) of Quinton, Va., and Forrest Keith Barlow (Earnestine) of Vickinson, Texas; and her daughter, Kathy Gilstrap of Petersburg, Va.; 10 grandchildren, Jessica Barlow (Shawn), Robert Cornell Barlow (LaQuita), Lorenzo Donnell Barlow (Jacqueline), Dana Branch, Tiffany, Ariel and Alissa Barlow, Shakiah Gilstrap, Shataya Gilstrap and Colette Trotter (Marvin); nine great-grandchildren; devoted friends, John Hudson, Barbara Jones, and Ann Reid; and a host of other devoted relatives and friends.
Mrs. Barlow was employed with Brown & Williamson Tobacco Co. for 22 years and Petersburg City Public Schools for seven years until retirement.
She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, where she was on the Ladies Usher Board since November 1969 until June 11, 2011. She was also a member of the Cabanernettes Club.
Mama Gloria (Diva), as she was affectionately known by grands and great-grands, had a passion for travel and delicious food. She was known for her dedication to work, church and family. She was loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Services for Mrs. Gloria D. Barlow will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014, at First Baptist Church, 236 Harrison St., Petersburg, Va.; the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Tillman, pastor, eulogist. Interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
