Mrs. Carlessia Ann Stewart Mitchell departed this life Monday, April 7, 2014, at her residence.

Mrs. Mitchell was a graduate for Peabody High School, Class of 1953, and attended North Carolina Central College (now University). She had currently been most closely associated with the Floyd Street Neighborhood Watch. Mrs. Mitchell was an avid New York Yankees fan.

She was the widow of James L. "Bubba" Mitchell Sr., and was predeceased by her parents, Anita Stewart Lundy and William H. "Bill" Jones Sr.

Mrs. Mitchell is survived by her children, Sharon, James Jr. and Tracy, all of Petersburg, and Cathy Chapman and her husband, David, and granddaughters, Taylor and Torri, all of Slidell, La.; one sister, Pamela Jones Nelson (Keefe); brothers, Alfred Lundy (Dorothy) and William H. "Mouse" Jones Jr.; sisters-in-law, Ruth "Cookie" Jones, Janice Brickell and Dr. Patricia Myers (Otha); brothers-in-law, retired Lt. Col. Gerald Mitchell (Pat) and Albert Mitchell (Sandra); devoted family friend, Roderick Batts; the family dog, Jack; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In accordance to her wishes, Mrs. Carlessia A. Stewart Mitchell, there will be no viewing or service. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to Crater Community Hospice or the in memory of Mrs. Mitchell.
