Blanche Lucille Overby was a native of Dinwiddie, having been born on July 31, 1921, to the late Norman Powell and Blanche Johnson Powell. She quietly slipped into her eternal rest on April 30, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anderson Overby.

At an early age, Blanche confessed Christ and became a member of Center Star Baptist Church. She later moved her member ship to Union Baptist Church in East Orange, N.J., where she remained active until she moved back to Dinwiddie 10 years ago. While at Union Baptist, she was an active and devoted member for over 50 years. She was an active in Sunday school and the usher board. When she returned to Dinwiddie, she joined the Mount Calvary Baptist Church, DeWitt.

She leaves o cherish her memory: one son, Robert Morgan (Rovena) of Baltimore, Md.; one sister, Kathryn Moore of Dinwiddie; and a host of grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives; and friends.

She was a resident at the Battle Field Park Nursing Home, Petersburg, for the last nine years and we would like to thank the staff for giving her excellent care.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2014, at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, 16609 Glebe Rd., Dewitt, with the pastor, the Rev. Gerald Q. Brandon, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body may be viewed Sunday, May 4, 2014, from 12 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
