She was a very beautiful woman inside and out and she was much loved by all as she gave unconditional love unto her family and many friends her whole life. Ruby was lovingly referred to as the "Dignified Buttercup" while attending and graduating from Carter G. Woodson. She later worked at Hercules in Hopewell and as a housekeeper for a number of years. She enjoyed cooking large meals for her family, going yearly to the Hampton Jazz Festival, Penn Relays, casinos and playing bingo.
Ruby was born to the late C.G. Patrick and Ruby Hicks Patrick in Mecklenburg County, Va. She was preceded in death by her eldest daughter, Debra Lynn Alvarez, and her son, Miguel; her siblings, Irving, Clyde, Major, Linwood, Delores Lane and Elsie Timmons.
Left to cherish her precious memory are: her daughter, Nicole R. Patrick (Angelo); grandchildren, Cecilia (Anija), Sergio, Ravon, Geion, Rihyanna, Sergio Jr., Lexi, Roberto Alvarez, Anasia and Ca'neira, all of Hopewell, Brandon and Deidra Johnson of South Carolina; siblings, Mary Jane Patrick and Patricia Harrison (Archie), one brother, Michael Patrick, all of Hopewell; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends too numerous to mention; and most loved by her very special friend, Francis Curley of Ettrick.
A service of honor and remembrance will be held at noon Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at the chapel of William N. Bland & Son Funeral Home, Hopewell. Minister Ricky Bailey will officiate. Interment will follow in Appomattox Cemetery, Hopewell. The immediate family is asked to assemble at 11 a.m. at 2309 Grant St., Hopewell, on the day of the service. Pallbearers are asked to assemble at 11:30 a.m. at the chapel.
