Mr. Clarence Ragsdale of Hopewell departed this life on Friday, May 23, 2014, at John Randolph Medical Center, Hopewell.

Clarence was born in Diniwiddie County on Sept. 14, 1932, to the late Laconchia Griffin. He was the brother of five sisters and the father of three children. At an early age, the family moved to Hopewell, where he attended Arlington Heights School.
In 1972, he met his wife Edith. They enjoyed a long marriage together. Later, he accepted Christ and became a member of Friendship Baptist Church where he served on the Ushers' Ministry.
Clarence was very talented in carpentry. He enjoyed building and repairing projects. His hobbies included hunting and fishing.
He leaves to cherish in his memories: three children, one devoted daughter, Deborah Spratley, two sons, Clarence Spratley and Paul Winston; one sister, the Rev. Iver Watkins; three grandchildren, Anglo Wiggins, Kendrice Holloway, and Terrance Moore; two sisters-in-law, Beulah Arnold and Mildred Kelly; one brother-in-law, Willie Robinson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at the Friendship Baptist Church, Hopewell. The interment will be held at the Appomattox Cemetery, Hopewell.
