Hearts were saddened when Mrs. Isabelle Walker Banks answered the Master's call and went home to her heavenly rest on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at her residence. She was born in Dinwiddie, Va., on Oct. 30, 1916, the oldest of 11 siblings born to the late Ashton L. Walker Sr. and Maude Maclin Walker.

At an early age, she joined and was baptized at Zion Baptist Church under the pastoralship of J.D. Brown. She was educated in the Petersburg Public School System and attended D. Webster Davis School of Cosmetology. In her early adult life, Isabelle relocated to Washington D.C., where she met and married the late Thomas L. Banks. She later moved with her family to New Jersey where she remained until her retirement when she returned to her Virginia roots.
Aunt Belle, as she was affectionately called, was employed as a master presser at National Dress Company in Newark, N.J., until their closing; she was later employed at Veterans Hospital in East Orange, N.J., as a dietitian assistant. Upon her return to Petersburg, she enjoyed volunteer service at Southside Regional Medical Center, membership in the Happy Hour Senior Citizens Club, working on jig-saw puzzles, playing games on her computer, traveling, and cooking new recipes.
Isabelle is survived by her daughter, Marsha J. Banks Wilkerson (the Rev. James Wilkerson) of East Orange, N.J.; grandson, Dr. Rashad C. Wilkerson (Dr. Denise Boggs-Wilkerson) of Chesapeake, Va.; five great-grandchildren, Rashad T. Butler-Wilkerson of Phillipsburg, N.J., Aniyah, Mary, Nyela and Jabari Wilkerson, all of Chesapeake, Va.; sister/loving and very devoted caregiver, Carolyn Jackson; brothers, Charles Walker, Wilbert Walker, and Harold Walker (Florence), all of Petersburg, Va., and Delma Walker (Carol) of Lake Elsinore, Calif.; nieces and nephews, Deborah Hart and Oriette Bellamy of Petersburg, Va., Kimberly Walker of Colonial Heights, Va., Doris Mayberry of Clementon, N.J., Todd Walker of East Orange, N.J., Tracy Karin of Bloomfield, N.J., Joan Gialanella of Rockaway, N.J., Vivian Routh of Lake Elsinore, Calif., and Lennie Walker of Seattle, Wash.; great-nieces and nephews, Deven Jackson of Varina, Va., Joi Jackson of Petersburg, Va., Karon Winston of Chesterfield, Va., Keya Walker of Colonial Heights, Va., Crystal Smith of Germantown, Md., Perry Anderson II of Mitchellville, Md., Dorian Walker of East Orange, N.J., Dana Gialanella and John Gialanella Jr., both of Rockaway, N.J., Jason Gialanella of Texas, Melissa Beebe of Florida, Christopher Routh, Garret Routh and Alicyn Routh, all of Lake Elsinore, Calif.; a devoted supportive friend, Hasana Butler of Phillipsburg, N.J.. She will also be remembered by her cousins and family friends.

Services for Mrs. Isabelle Walker Banks will be held 2 p.m., Friday, May 30, 2014, at the chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, Va. Interment to follow at Blandford Cemetery.
