Mrs. Edna M. Harvell, 80, of 18920 Flatfoot Road, Dinwiddie, Va., went home to be with her heavenly Father early Thursday morning, June 5, 2014, at her residence.

She was born on May 15, 1934, to the late Lilly Raines, and was adopted and reared by the late James and Mary Harvell. At an early age, she accepted Christ and became a member of the Little Zion Baptist Church, Carson, Va., and remained a faithful member until her health declined. She worked for a number of years at Titmus Optical, Brown and Williamson, Central State and retired from Dinwiddie County Public School System.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Bailey; a brother, James W. Harvell; grandchildren, Charita Ellis, Tony Ellis and JaShawn Prosise.
A very soft spoken woman, yet a woman of great strength and wisdom, she will be deeply missed by all who were touched by her life.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories, two daughters, Barbara Ellis of Petersburg and Janet Bailey of Dinwiddie; a son, Floyd Bailey (Rudy) of Petersburg; brother, Frank Ruffin (Cassie); a sister, Lucille Harvell of Philidelphia; grandchildren, Sabrina Maye, James Bailey (Rosa), Gregory Bailey (Mirtie), Stephanie Bailey, Crissandra Mabry (Clint), Clasha Bailey, Chandrelle Roberts (Kenyatta); numerous great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mary Bailey of Jarratt, Evendia Bailey of Stony Creek, Audrey Bailey and Rose Goode of New Jersey; a host of caring neighbors and friends, to include Mattie Lewis of Colonial Heights, Noami Harvey of Richmond, Mary Blackwell of Petersburg and Susie Harvell of Stony Creek.
A home going celebration will be held at noon Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at the Little Zion Baptist Church, Carson, with the pastor, the Rev. D. Tyrone Brandon Sr., officiating. Burial will follow at the Edwards Family Cemetery, Dinwiddie. The family will assemble at 11 a.m. on the day of the service at the residence of her daughter, Barbara Ellis, 2901 Nivram Road, Petersburg, Va.
