On Sunday, the eighth day of June, 2014, our Lord and Savior called upon His servant, Mrs. Christine Lewis Lyons at Southside Regional Hospital, formerly of 506 St. Luke St., Petersburg, Va. Christine continued to evangelize as she fought her own fight to live and witness before the Lord. Her smiles, words of encouragement and her strength will be deeply missed.

Christine was born on April 7, 1949. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Willie Lewis Jr. and Mrs. Christine Briggs Lewis; her three sisters, Barbara Lewis (Sonny) Constance M. Lewis, Rosa A. Davis; two brothers, Willie Lewis and Larry Lewis; and her son, Rhynell Lewis.

Christine was a faithful member of Higher Way Full Gospel Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Bishop Darren Gay. She served on the Gospel Choir and was enrolled in the International Bible College in Prince George, Va. As an entrepreneur, Christine was the co-owner of Lyons Construction and Cleaning Services, and a licensed phlebotomist.

She leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Mr. James Lyons; three sisters, Linda Cannon (Carlton) of Modesto, Calif., Joyce Henderson (James) and Sharon Pope of Petersburg, Va.; three brothers, Edward Lewis (Carolyn) of Macon, Ga., Harold Lewis (Pansy) and T. Michael Lewis (Marsha), Petersburg, Va.; six children, Helane Stewart (Garland), Frank Lewis (Janet), Angelo Lewis, Veronica Lewis, James Lewis and Ernest Coley of Petersburg, Va.; one aunt, Lillie Mae Taylor; in-laws, Sonny Lewis, Willie, David, Richard and Eddie (Lyons); a host of devoted grandchildren, FayShawn, Christine, Vonkeia, Monte', Neil, Frank Jr., Franchelle, Frankeia, Sharone, Shanell, Rhynell Jr., Jaquan, De'Angelo Jr., Dalquese, Marilyn, Kendra; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held noon Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Higher Way Full Gospel Baptist Church, 515 Virginia Ave., Petersburg. The pastor, Bishop Darren Gay, will officiate. Interment will follow in Dinwiddie Memorial Park, Dinwiddie. The family will assemble at the residence at 11 a.m. on the day of the service.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 Friday evening at the chapel of William N. Bland & Son Funeral Home, 137 Harrison St., Petersburg.
