Mr. Rodney C. Townes, affectionately known to his family as "Ronnie," entered into eternal rest on Friday, June 6, 2014, at the Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, Va.

He was a native of Amelia County, Va. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, John P. and Beula O. Townes, and a sister, Bessie Eggleston. He accepted Christ at an early age, and was baptized at Amelia Baptist Church, Rice, Va.

He was a former employee of Virginia State University. Currently, he was employed with Galvanizer/Valmont Co. His outstanding work ethic speaks volumes and serves as a model for many.

Ronnie's presence will be truly missed. Ronnie leaves a legacy of love, care, and concern for his family and friends. He had a loving sense of humor and enjoyed his music, whether listening to it in the comfort of his home or DJing.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 30 years, Emma Townes; three children, Rhydell Townes (Ashley), TyAnna Townes (Rodnee) and Emma Townes (Julius); four grandchildren, affectionately known to "PaPa" as Mercedes (Amaya), Football (Jazir), Noise (Rodnee Jr.) and England (Londyn); sisters and brothers, Joyce Bland of Newport News, Leslie Bowen of Durham, N.C., John Towns (Carolyn) of Farmville, Bonnie Thompson (Douglas) of Portsmouth, Bobbie Towns of Farmville, Barbara Holmes (Michael) of Newport News, Shelia Jackson (Alonzo) of Amelia; mother and father-in-law, Emma Evans of Petersburg and Lloyd Evans Sr. (Gracie) of Madison Heights; a host of devoted nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2014, at the Amelia Baptist Church, 617 Sayler Creek Road, Amelia Court House, Va., with the Rev. Calvin Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive at the funeral home from 6 to 7 Friday evening, June 13, 2014.
