Henrietta married Albert A. Chamberlain and they traveled the world raising a family until he retired from the military in 1974. She has resided in Petersburg until her passing.
Henrietta was a devoted mother and wife for over 60 years. She was a member of Third Baptist Church for many years and attended regularly until her health declined. She was known at the church as well as throughout the neighborhood as Mama Chamberlain. She was a loving caregiver, too.
She loved to be surrounded by family. Especially during the holidays, she would give orders to the helpers while sitting in her chair. If it was not done correctly, she would get up from her chair and do it herself. Some of her specialties included shrimp salad, shrimp gumbo, oyster dressing, yams and collard greens.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Eulie Mikell; sister, Emma Washington; and beloved husband for over 50 years, Sgt. 1st Class Albert A. Chamberlain.
She is survived by her five children, Wayne A. Chamberlain Sr. (Janice), Verona M. Chamberlain-Grant, Winona D. Chamberlain, Andrea B. Chamberlain and Andre' B. Chamberlain; brother, Willie G. Mikell; raised her eight grandchildren, Carmeneta R. Chamberlain, Wayne A. Chamberlain Jr., Janise L. Jenkins (Charles), Natashia L.K. Chamberlain, Shamond S.J. Chamberlain, Nyguel S. Grant, Nyll L. Grant and Ciani A. Ming; six great-grandchildren, Tameka, Marissa, Annalise, Kahlil, K'ante and Diamond; close cousin, Eloise Ruth; host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends that will miss her dearly.
