"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." — II Timothy 4:7

Mr. Melvin Edward Tucker, affectionately known as "Tuck" or "Mr. T", was born Dec. 2, 1951, in Dinwiddie, Va., to Bernard Edward Lee Sr., and Irene Stith Tucker. On Thursday, June 12, 2014, Melvin left this life the same way he lived it, peacefully and holding the hand of his wife.

Melvin was a 1971 graduate of Petersburg High School. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army. Upon his Honorable Discharge, Melvin was united in Holy Matrimony to Marienne Yolanda Morgan on June 22, 1974. Melvin has been one of Jehovah's Witnesses for the last 20-plus years, affiliated with the Halifax Congregation. His passions included: cooking, singing, swing dancing, playing pool, bid-whiz, and first and foremost family, especially "them grandkids."

Melvin was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Edward Lee Tucker Sr.; mother-in-law, Edna Louise Hayes, and brother-in-law, Richard W. "Chico" Cheatham Jr.

He leaves his cherished memory and legacy: his devoted wife of 40 years, Marienne of Petersburg; mother, Irene E. Tucker of Petersburg; two daughters, Chrystal L'Shonda "BabyGirl" and Summer Joi "Bright Eyes" Tucker; grandson, Jh'Marri D. Tucker and granddaughter, Jahmirra D. Tucker (Jahmirra's last words to Papa were, "I love you Papa, you're the best thing ever", which generated a smile that lit up the room) both of Petersburg. He was survived by three brothers, Bernard Tucker Jr. (Carolyn) and Cornelius "Wayne" Tucker, both of Petersburg, and Eric Tucker (Shondra) of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four sisters, Bernice Dean (Robert) of Petersburg, Blossie "Smokee" Cheatham of South Chesterfield, Irene "Twinkle-Toes" Thomas of Philadelphia, Pa., and Diana Tucker of Petersburg; two aunts, Gladys Hill of Petersburg and Catherine Williams of Sutherland; devoted goddaughter and godson, Dawn and Robert Harris II, both of Woodbridge, Va.; friend for over 30 years, Melvin Lee Haskins of Petersburg; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention, several devoted.

A special thank you goes out to Hunter Holmes McGuire Medical Center Richmond, Va.
