Mrs. Catherine M. Collins, "Cat," of 323 Myrtle Drive, Petersburg, Va., was summoned home by our Lord on Sunday, June 15, 2014, at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg. She was born on July 14, 1944, in Greensville County, Va.

Catherine was preceded in death by her father, Rufus McNair; daughter, Angela O. Hicks; two sons, Anthony A. McNair and Raymond Hicks Jr.; brother, Herbert McNair; and sister Mary Lee Jefferson.

Catherine was the oldest of 13 children. She attended public school system of Greensville County. She met and married Claybon Collins Jr. on Aug. 6, 1977.

She confessed at an early age and served the Lord in many areas until her health declined, She was a Past Worthy Matron of Star of Hope Chapter #164, Order of the Eastern Stars, serving in many organizations. Her employment included Jones Dining Hall (VSU), Department of Transportation Toll-Road attendant, U.S. Army Commissary (Europe and Fort Lee), Brenco and Hon. She loved to fish and was a great cook.

She was a devoted and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to many. Her love for God and her children was second to none. She will be sorrowfully missed, for we loved her dearly, but Jesus needed another rose in his garden. He loved her best.

She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted and loving husband of 36 years, Claybon Collins Jr., a devoted and loving daughter, Aletha McNair, son, Clinton A. Hicks, all of Petersburg; mother, Hannah McNair, Golden Living Battlefield Park; brothers and sisters, Cecil McNair (Phyllis), Larry McNair (Alice), Michael McNair (Lucille), all of Chesterfield, Tyrone McNair (Felecia) of Newport News, Patricia Hill (Wayne) of Hopewell, Rufus McNair Jr., Bernard McNair, Jeffrey McNair, Margaret McNair and Eloise McNair, all of Petersburg; grandsons, Delano A. McNair Sr. (Jimetria Chavis), Raymond Delenia, Rashad Delenia and Antonine White, Terrace Turberville; granddaughters, Ashley N. McNair and Angela L. McNair; great-grandsons, Delano A. McNair Jr., Ja Den K. McNair, Tristian J. McNair, Caljuan Tucker, Tevion Walker; and great-grandaughters, Armani A. McNair and Amirah N. Johnson; brother-in-law, Herbert Collins (Gloria) of Washington, D.C.; sisters-in-law, Francis McNair (Herbert) of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.. and Cassandra Santiago (Juan) of Lexington Park, Md.; four aunts, two devoted, Bertha Turner and Agnes Webb, Lucy Hicks and Celia Young; loving nephew, William "Chuckie" Collins; two goddaughters, Senethea McNair and Kiana Floyd; host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.

Celebration of life service will be held noon Friday, June 20, 2014, at First Baptist Church, 236 Harrison St., Petersburg; the Rev. Dr. Jerimiah Tillman, pastor, and the Rev. Leroy D. Evans, associate pastor, Metropolitan Baptist Church, eulogizing. Interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
