Mr. Leon Wilson (Sgt.), 62, of Petersburg, Va., entered into eternal rest Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Southside Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Dinwiddie County, and the son of the late Robert Bonner and Queen Wilson.

He was raised by Lenzy and (mom) the late Corean Lassiter. He attended the Dinwiddie Public School System and Job Corps. Leon joined the United States Marine Corps and served his country in a honorable manner during the Vietnam era, receiving numerous awards. He continued his military career, serving in the United States Marine Reserves. After his military career, he worked at Fort Lee and retired after 32 years of service. He went on to work in the community at various churches in the Petersburg area and always giving a helping hand.

He leaves to cherish his memories a daughter, Nikida "BooBoo" Johnson; two sons, Andre Johnson and Deonta Gregory of Petersburg; seven grandchildren, Samir M. Wyche, Xavia D. Myrick, Amari Shelton, Sarae Zaragoza Johnson, Delia Sanderson, Amani Gregory and Taziya Gregory; three brothers, devoted Herbert Wilson (Glory Jean) of Chester, Robert Wilson of Dinwiddie, Lenzy Lassiter Jr. (Cathy) of Petersburg; three sisters, Barbara Bloomfield (Jimmy) of Chesterfield, Bettie Fulgham of Ford and Esther Robinson of Crewe; two aunts, Barbara Ann Jones of Petersburg, Annie Morgan (James) of Sutherland; an uncle, Howard Bonner of McKenney; nephew, Brain Wilson (Shanika); niece, Sunday Wright (Dale); and a host of great-nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends, among them mother of his children, Theresa Johnson, devoted, Cheryl Brown and Margarite Hill, all of Petersburg.

Service for Mr. Leon Wilson will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2014, at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 2223 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Va.; the Rev. Jeffrey L. Reaves Sr., pastor, eulogist. Interment will be held at Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia.

The family will receive friends at 13818 Parson Bay Drive, Chester, Va.
