Deacon Neavon R. Jones, 55, of 500 Farmer St., Petersburg, Va., lovingly referred to as "Robin," peacefully exchanged his Earthly cross for his heavenly crown to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, June 21, 2014.

Neavon was a precious gift from God born to his now deceased parents, the late Elva Mae Jones and John Jones in Petersburg, Va. He was also greeted at Heaven's Gates by his deceased siblings, Hermanette Melton, Jewel Jones and Johnny Tyce. Neavon was educated in the Petersburg Public School System and has also earned an associate degree in liberal arts on Oct. 12, 2008.

Neavon was a loyal and faithful member of the Morning Star Baptist Church in Petersburg, Va. The demonstration of his commitment to the work of our Lord was clearly evident as a member of the following ministries: Deacon Board, Men's Ministry, Transportation Ministry, Adopt A Child Ministry, and he organized The Outreach Ministry as well as an avid teacher for Sunday School. Neavon shared his spiritual gifts throughout his community as he taught weekly Bible study at Gillhaven Manor and often ministered to men at the Men's Shelter. He was a loving volunteer at various food pantries, and extended his hands and his heart to those who were in need. We will dearly miss his loving smile and his words of encouragement to everyone. We truly thank God for "Deacon Neavon's" presence in our lives. He was a wonderful blessing to his family and his many dear friends.
