Mr. Plummer Thorne Jr., 71, of Hopewell, departed this life Monday, July 7, at the VCU Medical Center.

A native of Hopewell, Va., he was the son of the late Plummer Sr. and Betty Thorne. He was a 1959 Honor's Graduate of Carter G. Woodson High School. He was employed by Allied Chemical and a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
Plummer was preceded in death by three brothers, Lindell, Albert and Charles Thorne.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dorothy Thorne; five children, Denise Rose, Sonya Tuberville (Daryl), Natalie Jones (George), Marvin Thorne (Camellia) and Ricardo Thorne; seven grandchildren, Krysti Webb, Marcal Thorne, Dominique Cabral, Fiero Johnson, Key'Era Winsotn, Kaia Thorne and Jordan Tuberville; eight great-grandchildren; five sisters, Evangeline Brown, Iris Collins (Roscoe), Doreatha Jackson, Glenda Hayes (Ronald Sr.) and Betty Waller (Marvin); two brothers, Wallace Thorne (Juanita) and Angelo Thorne (Juanita); five sisters-in-law, Delores Thorne, Jeraldine Thorne, Mary Blanding, Rosa Blanding and Partricia Robinson; four brothers-in-law, Anthony Taylor, Richard Taylor, Ulysses Blanding and Jerome Robinson; and a host of devoted cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, among them two devoted, Berkley James and Paul Reid.
A funeral service will be held noon Saturday, July 12, at the Friendship Baptist Church, Hopewell. The interment will be held at the Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
