The hearts of many were saddened when Mr. Charles E. Branch departed this life on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, in Richmond. John 14 1-3; "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."

He was born Sept. 4, 1935, in Dinwiddie County, to the late Garland Branch and the late Mary Crowder Branch. He joined the Center Star Baptist Church, Dinwiddie, at an early age. He was a retired steel worker with over 25 years of service. He was also a member of the Mt. Moriah Lodge #25, Troy New York.

He is preceded in death by: his siblings, Wallace, Ben, Leory, William, Peck, David, McKinley, Melvin, Lillian, Blanche, and Vastine.

He is survived by: his wife, Delores Arline Branch; one daughter, Sharleen Denise Lanier of Troy, N.Y.; a son, Warren Branch; two grandchildren, Monae' Branch, and Ariel Lanier of Albany, N.Y.; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Purcell Branch (Yvonne); three brothers-in-law, Alphonso Hayes (Alice), John J. Hayes (Arbualah) of Baltimore, Md., Montaque O. Hayes of Richmond; two sisters-in-law, Velma Branch and Grace Branch of Troy, N.Y.; a host of nieces; nephews; and cousins; and friends.

A homegoing service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2014, at the Union Baptist Church, Church Road, with the pastor, the Rev. Leroy Rhone, officiating, and the Rev. Dr. Jimmie L. Walker Sr., eulogizing. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Public viewing will be held on Monday, July 14, 2014, at the Petersburg Chapel. The family will also receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
