Mr. Lawrence Edward James Sr., 79, of 3706 April Lane, slipped away to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at Southside Regional Medical Center.

Mr. James was a native of Prince George County. He retired from Hercules (Aqualon) in Hopewell after 27 years of service. After retirement, he worked many years as the proprietor of his firewood, logging business. He enjoyed this tremendously until his health began to fail.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Andren and Gertrude James; daughter, Lovern James Jenkins; and son, Lawrence Edward James Jr.; and 11 siblings.
He leaves to cherish his memories: the love of his life and devoted wife of 59 years, his "Cindy" as he called her, Mrs. Hilda Sykes James; children, Cynthis James-Harris (Eddie) of Petersburg, Andrew James (Genesia) of Richmond, Erice Moore (Douglas) of Hopewell, Yolanda James (Antoine) of Fayetteville, N.C., and Beyonce James of Prince George; one brother, Andrew Lee James of New York; two sisters, Addie Burton of Newport News, and Ida Mae Hall of Prince George; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one devoted granddaughter, Melika Miller (Corby)of Prince George; devoted grandson, Leonte' James of Prince George; close friend of family, Keith Charity of Hopewell; devoted son-in-law, Eddie Harris of Petersburg; Contessa Henry of Greensboro, N.C.; host of nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.
Homegoing service for Mr. Lawrence James Sr., will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2014, at the chapel of William N. Bland & Son Funeral Home, Petersburg, the Rev. Linwood James Sr., eulogy and Apostle Haywood James, Sr. will officiate. Interment will follow at Memorial Garden Cemetery, Prince George.
