Mr. Aaron LaVerne Judd (The Legend, Dump), 74, of 400 Mars St., Petersburg, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Southside Regional Medical Center. He was born Sept. 10, 1939, to the late Aaron Lee Judd and Maude Green Mason. He was also predeceased by his grandmother, Sarah Mason Judd.

At an early he confessed Christ and became a member of the Olive Branch Baptist Church, Dinwiddie. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving four years in London, England. His love of sports was his passion, he often spoke of announcing the ball games for the Virginia Central League Baseball. His ability to recall stats in baseball, basketball, football and tennis was amazing. He will be missed by many.

He is survived by: his wife, Janet C. Judd of Petersburg; three children, Adrian, Teresa, and Jarrett Judd, all of Petersburg; a stepson, Alphonsa Covington of Durham, N.C.; three sisters; Dorothy Poarch (Franklin) and Laura Judd of Petersburg, and Ruby Winfield of Hanover, Md.; a devoted aunt, Laura Dickerson of Ettrick; a companion and caregiver, Cecilia Kelly of Petersburg; nine grandchildren, Janet, Sharee, AnJane't, Antoniio, Lishelle, Lashea, Angel, Brian, and Shimar; 17 great-grandchildren; a goddaughter, Fondra Kelly of Norfolk; Vanessa Watts whom he called sis; all of his friends at Rudy's Barber Shop; and a host of cousins, among them a special cousin, James Williams; other relatives; and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at the Olive Branch Baptist Church Cemetery, with the pastor, the Rev Kevin N. Northem officiating. Burial will be on Wednesday at The Amelia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia, with military honors.

The family will assemble at his sister's residence, 916 Patterson St., Petersburg, at 2 p.m. on the day of the service and can be contacted at 804-733-5192. The body may be viewed on Monday, July 21, 2014, from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home in Petersburg and at the church one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Olive Branch Baptist Church Debt Reduction Fund in memory of Aaron Judd.
