Mrs. Beatrice Elizabeth Jackson, of 1520 Regency Court, Petersburg, departed this life Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at the Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg.

She was born Feb. 14, 1937, to the late Nathaniel Ross and Freddie Mae Bates. Affectionately know as Boobie, she was a gifted and loving mother of 10 children who enjoyed working in the hospitality field. She was a supervisor for the Howard Johnson Motel and an employee at John Tyler Community College. She loved refurbishing floral crafts and furniture in her spare time. Beatrice will be truly missed and always remembered.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leland Jackson Sr., and her brother, Nathaniel Ross Bates Jr.

She is survived by: her children, Reuben, Leland, Lester (Debra), Diane, Denise (Herman), Deloris, Deborah, Donna (Gary), Leland Jr. (Laneisha), and Detra (Lamont); brothers, Robert Bates, Kenneth Ruffin, Bobby Ruffin, Keith Ruffin; sisters, Sheila Moody, and Barbara Ruffin; 30 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, four brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces; nephews; and other relatives; and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at the Mount Olivet Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Wesley K. McLaughlin, pastor, officiating. The interment will be held at the Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
