Mrs. Geraldine A. Davis, 82, passed away unto peaceful rest Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014.

She was born April 21, 1932, to the late Robert Sr. and Sarah Ruffin Armstrong in Petersburg, Va. She was a lifelong resident of the Delectable Heights community, where she met and married her beloved husband of 60 years, Percy L. Davis Jr., who preceded her in death in January 2013.

Geraldine was a graduate of Peabody High School and Virginia State College (now Virginia State University), where she earned a bachelor of science degree in early childhood education. She taught for several years at Carter G. Woodson Elementary School in Hopewell, Va., as well as A.P. Hill Elementary School in Petersburg.

Geraldine was also a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, Harrison Street, in Petersburg, Va. While there, she served as a member of the Senior Missionary Circle alongside her mother for many years.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Geraldine cultivated a quiet faith that nurtured a quiet strength. It was this strength and determination that sustained her and proved an inspiration to many.

She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her sons, Percy L. Davis III (Sharon) and Gerald I. Davis; daughters, Camille Davis Thornton and Sareese E. Davis; and granddaughter, Elaina N. Davis.

Also cherishing fond memories of love are her sister, Muriel Wilkerson; brother, Robert Armstrong Jr.; nephews, John Wilkerson Jr. (Bettye), Garland Wilkerson Sr. (Jennifer), Robert Armstrong III (Carla), Randolph Harrison (Angela) and Timothy Parker Sr.; nieces, Pamela Sutton (Emerson), Robin Wimbush and Phyllis Wright; cousin, Osborne Harris (Edna); and a host of other relatives, friends, neighbors and former students.

Services for Mrs. Geraldine A. Davis will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at First Baptist Church, 238 Harrison St., Petersburg, Va.; the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Tillman, pastor, and the Rev. Dr. Andrew J. White Sr., eulogist. Interment to follow at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia.

Wake service from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at the funeral establishment.

Honorary and active pallbearers are asked to assemble 10:30 a.m. at the church.
