Edith Mae Holmes entered eternal rest at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk, Va., on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014.

She was born Jan. 24, 1950, to the late Henry W. Williams and Annie L. Turner Williams in Waverly, Va. Edith accepted Jesus Christ at an early age at First Baptist Church, Waverly, Va.

She was employed 27 years at Smithfield Foods Inc., where she was well known for her jovial nature and fun interactions with her co-workers and friends.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Melvina Harris.

Edith leaves to cherish her memories a loving husband of 42 years, William Henry Holmes of Dendron, Va.; daughters, Charlene Williams of Upper Marlboro, Md., Yolanda Holmes-Williams (Jody) of Charles City, Va.; son, William Holmes Jr. of Dendron, Va.; three granddaughters, Shalonda Holmes, Jolisa Williams, Keonia Williams; two great-granddaughters, Chassidy and Demeria; two sisters, Gladys Williams, Phyllis (Russell) Schaeffer; two brothers, Earnest (Clarine) Williams, Frank (Janice) Williams; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Calvin Harris, Thomas Holmes, Leroy (Byrdie) Holmes, Stanley (Irene) Holmes, Mary Wise, Earnestine (Robert) White, Beatrice Shaw; a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and numerous devoted friends.

Special acknowledgement to those who provided support during her extended illness, neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Nowlin, Mr. and Mrs. Ronnel Evans, James Shaw and Beatrice Shaw; medical staff at Suffolk Radiology, Dr. Atienza, Dr. Belbeck and their staff, as well as staff at Sentara Obici Hospital.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at the First Baptist Church, Waverly, with the Rev. Ronald C. Taylor, pastor, officiating. The Interment will follow privately.

Mrs. Holmes remains will lie in repose for public viewing from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at the chapel of Peace-Bland Funeral Home, Waverly.
