Robert Lewis Legat, 81, of Hopewell, passed away on Sunday, Aug., 10, 2014.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Yvonne Perry-Legat; daughter, Lisa Fuzy; and parents, Stephen A. Sr. and Elizabeth Covington Legat. Robert owned and operated Legat and Associates Surveying Co. for several years. He graduated from Hopewell High School and played football while in school, and was part of the team when they won 35 consecutive games and state champions. He loved football, especially cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and Virginia Tech. Robert served on the City Council in Hopewell, and enjoyed going to the beach and spending time with his family and friends. Robert was a very caring and compassionate man that was willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
He is survived by his son, David. B Legat and his wife, Terri; son-in-law, Victor Fuzy; grandchildren, Kelly, Kristy, Kori Fuzy, and Tasha, Cole, Jamie, Tyler Legat; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Danny Legat and his wife, Nancy, Steve Legat and his wife, Kathy; sister, Betsy Robinson and her husband, James; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, in Appomattox Cemetery. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.
