Mr. Samuel F. Lewis Jr., 75, affectionately known as "Sam," of Charlottesville, Va., formerly of Petersburg, Va., entered eternal rest on Monday, Aug. 4, 2014, at UVA Transitional Hospital, Charlottesville, Va.

He was born on Nov. 30, 1938, to the late Samuel F. Lewis Sr. and Bertha King Lewis in Petersburg, Va. He was also preceded in death by his son, Samuel F. Lewis III.
Samuel accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Petersburg, Va. Samuel graduated from Peabody High School, Petersburg, Va., in 1956. After his tour of duty, he was honorably discharged from the United States Marines with 14 years of service. He later retired from the federal government after working numerous years.
Sam leaves to cherish his memories a very caring and devoted friend for numerous years, Diana Hart of Charlottesville, Va.; son, Kirk Green Lewis of Spartanburg, S.C.; niece whom he was reared as a sister, Deloris Young of Petersburg, Va.; ex-wives/friends, Margurite D. Hill of Petersburg, Va., and Sarah Green Lewis of Charlottesville, Va.; friend, Claudette Jefferson of Richmond, Va.; and a host of nieces, cousins, other relatives friends.
Services for Mr. Samuel F. Lewis Jr. will be held 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at the Chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, Va.; Rev. Dr. Vernon Billy Lee, eulogist.
