Mr. Giovanni K. Grandison, 37, was called from labor to reward on Wednesday evening, Aug. 20, 2014, at the Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, Va., surrounded by his family.
He was born on May 12, 1977, to Ms. Marshelia Grandison "Shelia." He received his education through the Dinwiddie County Public School System, Class of 1995. At an early age he gave his life to Christ and was baptized at Abundant Life Bible Mission.
Giovanni was known as "Geo" or "Vonni" by close family and friends. He was a devoted son, nephew, cousin, godbrother and friend. He believed in family values, and he was a man of great "Courage, Strength and Wisdom." Even through his illness he kept the faith and stood on the promises of our Lord and Savior, "Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD deliverth him out of them all."
Giovanni had a passion for cooking and that he could do, one day wishing to become Chef Grandison. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him by his words of inspiration. Even in his last hour he gain strength as he quoted the word of God, "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy path." Shortly after, he shut his eyes and fell asleep in the arms of father Jesus the Christ.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Grandison; a very special cousin, Mr. Darian Hicks. He leaves to cherish her memories, a devoted and supportive mother, Ms. Marshelia Grandison "Shelia," Dinwiddie, Va.; a godsister, Miss MeAuzhae Goode, Richmond, Va.; two aunts, Mildred Hicks (Murreall), Dinwiddie, Va., and Mae Grandison of Macon, Ga.; two uncles, Lawrence Grandison, Petersburg, Va., and the Rev. James Grandison (Slivia), Charlotte, N.C.; four great-aunts, Mrs. Lady G. Roberts (Freddie) and Ms. Shirley Hartwell, McKenney, Va., Mrs. Bertha Henderson (Hawthorne), Dinwiddie, Va., and Ms. Ruth Phidd, Brooklyn, N.Y.; one great-uncle, Alvin Coleman (Rose), McKenney, Va.; one great-great-uncle, Mr. Frank Coleman (Gerldine), McKenney, Va.; a host of cousins, among them devoted Sean Grandison, Linda Grandison, Wykeena Grandison, Dwayne Henderson, the Rev. Alexander Williams; and friends, among them devoted Tahisha Wyatt, Erica Jackson, Charon Gray and Eddie Baily; and other relatives.
Public viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be private.
