Mr. Albert Burgard, 75, of 128 S. Sycamore St., Apartment 801, Petersburg, Va., entered eternal rest and life Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, Va.

He was born on Jan. 7, 1934, in Manhattan Island, N.Y., to the late Clara Irene Gagnon and Casper Louis Burgard.

He graduated high school from a military academy in Fresno, Calif., Class of 1952. He signed on for the delayed entry for military service on Feb. 18, 1952, in which he enlisted in the United States Navy and served four years as a hospital corpsman. On Feb. 7, 1956, he transferred service into the United States Navy Reserves until Oct. 11, 1956, in which enlisted into the United States Air Force and served another 16 years as a preventive medicine specialist. He retired and was discharged, from the USAF Environmental Health Laboratories at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, Calif., after 20 years of honorable military service, as Senior Master Sgt. Albert Burgard.

He is preceded in death by a brother and three sisters, of which he was the eldest, and a stepgrandson of Joshua John Lipscomb.

He leaves to cherish his memories, devoted wife, Camelia W. Burgard; one son, Dennis Burgard (Stephanie) and granddaughters, Kelly and Taylor, of Jacksonville, N.C.; two daughters, Susan Spruill (Jason) and grandsons, Christopher and Matthew of Georgia, Patty Healey and grandchildren, Ray and Ashley of South Carolina; and also a stepson, Jeffrey J. Lipscomb of Petersburg, Va., and grandchildren, Loise Lyn Lipscomb of Houston, Justin Scott Lipscomb of Maine and Talisa of Kentucky; life-long devoted friends, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Willis of Glenn Allen, Va.; a host of friends and neighbors of Sycamore Towers.

A service of love and remembrance will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at the chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, Va.; Pastor Ida Lawson officiating.
