Cheryl Dean, 51, resided at 4508 Hollingsworth Lane, Virginia Beach, Va., with her husband, Maurice, and two daughters. She was called to rest by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Dec. 13, 2009, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

She was predeceased by her mother, Alma Bradford-Coleman; her father, Joseph (Joe) Coleman; and her brother, Joseph Coleman Jr. She is also predeceased by her mother-in-law, Annie Taylor. Cheryl graduated from Petersburg High School in 1978. Shortly thereafter, she married her childhood sweetheart, Maurice Antonio Dean, on Dec. 30, 1978. Upon her husband, Maurice, receiving orders from the Navy, they moved to the Norfolk area, where they have resided for over 30 years. From that union, they had two daughters, LaShauna Dean-Nganga and Brea Glynice Dean.

Cheryl worked in the mental health/substance abuse field for approximately 13 years. She was a faithful employee who worked hard for clients and her fellow employees. Cheryl joined Village Church on March 26, 2006. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Village Church. Cheryl served as chairperson of the anniversary committee in 2008 and 2009.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Maurice Antonio Dean; two daughters, LaShauna (Nicholas) Dean-Nganga and Brea Glynice Dean, all of Virginia Beach, Va.; a loving and devoted sister, Glynice Coleman of Englewood, N.J.; three aunts, Dorothy (Franklin) Poarch of Petersburg, Va., Annie Pearl-Coleman of McKenney, Va., and Helen Bradford of Petersburg, Va.; three uncles, Otis (Eva) Bradford of Oxen Hill, Md., Nathan Bradford of Petersburg, Va., and Tyrone Coleman of Dinwiddie, Va.; two great-aunts, Thelma (Harold) Walker of Dinwiddie, Va., and Ruby Bradford of Cleveland. She is also survived by her father-in-law, Robert (Bernice) Dean of Petersburg, Va.; loving sisters-in-law, Pamela Taylor, Shirley Taylor, Wanda Taylor, April Taylor, Tracie Taylor, Tracey (James) Clark and Natalie Wynn of Petersburg, Va.; lifelong friends, the Genua family, Ralph and Denise Genua, Nicole (Nell) Rhodes, Ralph Jr., Michael, and Dominique. She has a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and friends. The loving spirit of Cheryl will remain with her family, friends, co-workers, church family, and anyone she touched for the rest of our lives.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at Village Church, 4013 Indian River Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23456. A viewing will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Riddick Funeral Home, Norfolk, Va.
