Ms. Delilah D. Gaines, 64, of 320 Cool Springs St., Petersburg, departed this life on Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg.
She was born on Dec. 21, 1946, to the late Gratten and Helen Gaines in Petersburg. Ms. Gaines was a 1965 graduate of Southside High School, Dinwiddie, and was retired from the Southside Virginia Training Center, Petersburg.
She was a member of Harvest International Church in Petersburg.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Gaines Jones.
Ms. Gaines was a dedicated, loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister, relative and friend.
Surviving are: three sons, Steven Gaines of Virginia Beach, Christopher and Terik Gaines, both of Petersburg; two daughters-in-law, Darlene Gaines of Virginia Beach and Lacheyna Green of Richmond; seven grandchildren, Tyrika and Tykasia Davis, Tysaughn and Tyziah Moses, all of Petersburg, Steven Gaines Jr., LaShawn Gaines and Kevin Howard all of Virginia Beach; a great-grandson, Jasiah Gaines of Virginia Beach; three brothers, Phillip Gaines of Waverly, John Gaines of Chesterfield and Ronald Gaines of Suffolk; three sisters, Roxanne Ruffin of Petersburg, Tara Gaines of Waverly and Tammy Giles of Richmond; three sisters-in-law, Fleetwood B. Gaines of Waverly, Marion Gaines of Suffolk and Robin Gaines of Chesterfield; a brother-in-law, Charles Ruffin of Petersburg; two aunts, Mary Williams of Charlotte County and Mary Ann Gates of Petersburg; one uncle, Otis Williams of Charlotte County; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, cousins and friends, among them devoted, Pastor Eunice Gray of Hopewell.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at the Chapel of William N. Bland & Son Home, Petersburg. The Rev. William N. Bland Jr., pastor of Metropolitan Baptist Church, Petersburg, will officiate. Interment will follow in Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
