Mr. Herman Jefferson, 74, of 1101 E. Booker Circle, Petersburg, Va., entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 24, 2011, at Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center.

He was affectionately known by close friends as "Ice Cream," "Hawk Eye" and "Meat Head," He was the youngest son of the late Robert Morris and Florence Scott Jefferson, born on Dec. 21, 1936, in Sutherland, Va., and the grandson of the late Joseph and Mattie Hayes Jefferson, He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Monique Jefferson; sister, Pearl Cathleen McCoy; brothers, Benjamin Franklin Scott, Robert Freddy Jefferson, James Allen Jefferson, Morris Gilbert Jefferson; and stepmothers Fannie Jefferson.

Herman accepted Christ at an early age and joined Rocky Branch Baptist Church, where he was a faithful member. Herman was educated in the Dinwiddie County School system and graduated with the class of 1955.

Herman served in the U.S Army and toured in Berlin, Germany. Upon coming back to the U.S., he joined his family business Hayes and Jefferson Construction Co., also was employed at Brown & Williamson Tobacco Co. for 20 years, Allied Chemical for 12 years. Upon retiring, he enjoyed his hobbies: gardening, fishing, hunting, cooking, dancing, listening to music and spending time with his grandchildren.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories his devoted wife of 48 years, Lenora Ellis Jefferson; two sons, Herman Terry Jefferson, Michael Anthony Jefferson (Lachania) of Carson, Va.; one daughter, Cheryl Lynn Jefferson of Petersburg, Va.; six grandchildren, Paris Jefferson, Jazz Jefferson and Brandy Jefferson of Petersburg, Mikayla, Vadaysha and Kabreyia Jefferson of Carson, Va.; one brother, Harold Lee Jefferson (Barbara); one sister, Mattie Arlean Spicely; one sister-in-law, Ruth Jefferson;, two aunts, Hattie Wilkerson Scott of Petersburg, Va., and Ruby Scott, Baltimore; devoted nieces and nephews; devoted friends, Peter Bland, James Bland, Percell Branch (Yvonne), Charles Branch (Arleane) Cecil Jones, George Hopson, Beamon Hayes (Claresa), Anette Bennett, Joyce Ann Rosser and Carson Hunt Club.

A funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, April 30, 2011, at the Rocky Branch Baptist Church, Sutherland, Va., with the pastor, the Rev. Lynn Robinson, officiating and Bishop Carroll Tyrone Ritchie eulogizing. Burial will follow at the Dinwiddie Memorial Park. Public viewing will be held on Friday, April 29, 2011, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
