Albert L. Rives

Albert Lee Rives, of 5949 Sentry Hill Court, Petersburg, Va., passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2011. Our hearts were saddened by the passing of our loved one.

Albert was born on July 2, 1957, to the late Edward A. Rives Sr. and Mattie L. Rives. Albert was preceded in death by four brothers, John Willie Rives, Edward Rives Jr., James L. Rives and James (Jimmy) Nicholas; and two sisters, Lottie White and Annie Green.

Albert was a native of Dinwiddie County. He received his education through the Dinwiddie County School System. At an early age, Al began pursuing barber school. He then became an entrepreneur starting a company called Al's Barber Shop, located on Sycamore Street in Petersburg, Va. Along with various side jobs. He was also employed at Central State Hospital in housekeeping. Al was a successful entrepreneur at Al's Barber Shop as the CEO of the company. Albert was a hard worker who was full of humor, excitement and determination. He did whatever it took to take care of his family the best way he knew how.

Albert accepted Christ at an early age at Sharon Baptist Church, located in Dinwiddie, Va. He joined and was currently a member at the Good Shepherd Baptist Church, Petersburg, Va.

He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted and loyal wife of 32 years, Shelia Rives; six children, Sherrick Rives, Latoya Rives, Jeanell Johnson, Shawn Rives, Shonna Rives and Albert Lee Rives Jr.; a number of grandchildren; four brothers, Roy (Nancy), Clifton (Barbara), Larry (Sonya) and Steve (Angela); six sisters, Maggie Smith, Rosetta Rowe, Gail Johnson, Bunnie Farrar (Thomas), Mary Martin (George) and Mattie McNeil (Jimmy), all of Petersburg. He was the son-in-law of the late Robert and Marie Coleman; four brothers-in-law, George Coleman (Joyce) of Petersburg, Robert Coleman Jr., of Dinwiddie, Clinton Coleman of Dinwiddie and Mandale Coleman of Dinwiddie; five sisters-in-law, Delores Smith of Petersburg, Yvonne and Yvette Coleman of Dinwiddie, Dinita Coleman of Dinwiddie, Paulette Rives of Dinwiddie; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and two devoted friends, Bishop Kippy Lundy and the Rev. George Mayes.

God said in Psalms 30:5, "for His anger endureth but a moment, in his favor is life; weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning."

Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, July 11, at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 2223 S. Crater Road, Petersburg; Pastor Jeffrey L. Reaves officiating. Interment at Dinwiddie Memorial Park, Dinwiddie. Relatives and friends will assemble at 5949 Sentry Hill Court, Petersburg, at 11 a.m. Remains rest at the Tucker's Funeral Home, 415 Halifax St., Petersburg. A.A. Tucker, funeral director.
