On Tuesday, July 5, 2011, Mr. Hugh Leonard "Sonny" Wyatt Jr. heard a voice calling him from his earthly to his heavenly rewards.

Mr. Wyatt was born March 28, 1940, to the late Hugh and Estelle Wyatt. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Candance Faye Wyatt; granddaughter, Ebony C. Wyatt; sister, Janet L. Baker; and the mother of his children, Beverly D. Wyatt.

He was a 1957 graduate of Peabody High School. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of New First Baptist Church, Birdville. He retired from The Richmond-Times Dispatch where he was employed for many years. He was also the owner of "Brandie's Mart," a convenient store in Petersburg.

He was always busy working and when he could not be found working he was usually on the river banks fishing, which he dearly loved to do.

He leaves to cherish his memories his daughter, Donna "Dollbaby" Smith (Kermit) of Petersburg, Va.; sons, Randell Wyatt of Hopewell, Va., and Ricky T. Wyatt (Renee) of Ettrick, Va.; 10 grandchildren, three of whom he raised, Brandie Wyatt-Pitt (Rashaad) and grandsons, Brandell and Brandon Wyatt; numerous great-grandchildren; one sister, Frances Jackson (the Rev. Milton Jackson) of Callao, Va.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Hopewell Health Care and Rehabilitation Center for their loving care.

A funeral service will be held 1: p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at the Chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, Va.;, Pastor Milton Jackson, eulogist. The interment to follow in the Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
