William Saye Obituary

William "Matt" Matthew Saye, 21, of Disputanta, Va., departed this life Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, Pole Run Road, Prince George County.

He was born Aug. 29, 1989, in Petersburg, Va.; and was a 2008 Prince George High School graduate. Matt is the son of William Jay and Betty Jane Saye of Disputanta, Va.

He is survived by his parents and his sister, Elizabeth Jane Saye of Nashville, Tenn., and his brother, Jackie Bradley Jr. of Prince George, Va. Other survivors include, grandparents, Marceline Saye, William and Rebecca Jane Menefee; and aunts; uncles; many cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his grandfather, William A. Saye.

Matt attended Southside Virginia Community College in Alberta, Va., where he studied criminal justice. He was employed with the Virginia Department of Corrections. He graduated from the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Corrections Basic Correctional Officer Academy Training just last June. Matt's passion was baseball. He played for Prince George High School. His senior year of high school he was awarded comeback player of the year. He continued playing baseball for Southside Virginia Community College. He played travel baseball for the Richmond Braves and participated in numerous baseball showcases. He also enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting, and any activity he could share with his Dad. He will long be remembered by his friends for his excellent humor and his ability to bring smiles into any situation. His kindness and compassion graced the lives of all who knew him.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2011, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will also be held at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011, with interment to occur following the service at Southlawn Memorial Park in Prince George, Va. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517. I didn't know your son, but when I saw his obituary, it broke my heart. Someone so young with his whole life in front of him, it's hard to understand why these things happen. I thought of you'all and the pain you must be going through, I pray for you that God will ease your pain. Only time will make this terrible loss a little easier to bare.
