Deacon James Alexander Rose Sr. (Cutter), on Monday, Oct. 17, 2011, our hearts were saddened by the passing of our loved one, Deacon James A. Rose, 76, of 10119 County Drive, Disputanta, Va., who departed his life at Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital, Richmond, Va.

He was born on Jan. 25, 1935, to the late John Henry Gurley and Lelia Rose Gurley of Disputanta, Va. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Disputanta, Va., for many years. He served on the Deacon Board and was a member of the Male Chorus. He was retired from Hercules Inc., where he worked for 30 years.

Surviving are his loving devoted wife of 54 years, Doris J. Rose; a sister, Ollie Hill of Disputanta, Va.; a daughter, Reta Rose Wyche (Chucky) of Disputanta, Va.; five sons, Marlon Rose of Dinwiddie, Va., Professor James A. Rose Jr. of Philadelphia, Christopher Rose of Dinwiddie, Va., David Rose Sr. (Jocelyn) of Hopewell, Va., and Jeffrey Rose Sr. of Florida; 19 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a niece, Brenda Hill; two nephews, Wayne Hill (Patricia) and Daryl Hill; cousins, Melvin Rose (Vicky) and Jimmie Rose; and a host of other relatives and friends; special friends, Tom Tomlin, George Faison, Martin Denise, Alexander Fields and Thomas Gregory. Special thanks to the Rev. Dr. Alfred Reid and the Rev. Eugene Peay.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, from First Baptist Church, Disputanta, Va., with the Rev. Dr. Alfred Reid officiating. Interment will be in Southlawn Memorial Park, Petersburg, Va. Family and friends will assemble at the residence at 10 a.m. the day of the service. Remains rest at Tucker's Funeral Home, 415 Halifax St., Petersburg, Va. A.A. Tucker, funeral director.
