The funeral for Pharis Stockton, 89, of 507 First St., Martinsville, who died April 22, 2012, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, will be at noon Friday at Rock Hill Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Arthur Stockton officiating. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hairston Funeral Home.
He was born in Martinsville on Dec. 20, 1922, to Edward Stockton and Rosie Eggleston Stockton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mamie J. Stockton, and a daughter, Thelma Burnette Stockton-Noel.
He was a lifelong member of Rock Hill Primitive Baptist Church, and he served as a deacon at Rock Hill and also Blue Hill Primitive Baptist Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Maxine M. Eggleston and Brenda L. Stockton-Seay, both of Martinsville, and Ruth Denise Stockton-Nowlin of Petersburg; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Rebecca Neblett of Martinsville.
