Tara Paige Burlage, 38, of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., died on April 28, 2012.

Born in Petersburg, Va., Tara graduated from First Colonial High School in Virginia Beach in 1991, then went on to graduate from Virginia Tech in 1995. She was employed as an associate broker with BD&A Realty on the Outer Banks. She was a world traveler, an animal lover and an avid runner. Her compassion for others and her enthusiasm for life touched all who knew her.

Tara was preceded in death by her two grandfathers, Herbert B. Miller of Petersburg and Robert Hilton Boyce of North Carolina.

She is survived by her loving husband, Douglas Clyde Burlage; her mother, Lisabeth "Lisa" Miller Guthrie of New Kent; her father, James Robert Boyce of Meadows of Dan; and her stepfather, Walter Branch Guthrie of New Jersey; also grandmothers, Dorothy Lyons Miller of Petersburg and Doris Burchett Boyce of North Carolina; aunt, Mary Elizabeth Boyce Johnson of North Carolina; uncle, William Curtis "Curt" Miller; and nephew, Mason Curtis Miller of Maryland; stepdaughters, Dana Cole Burlage of Virginia Beach and Blake Burlage of North Carolina; numerous cousins; a large circle of friends and beloved pets.

A memorial service to celebrate Tara's life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., 2002 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach, with the Very Rev. Dr. S. Paul Rowles, rector of St. Peter's Parish Church of New Kent, officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg with the Rev. David Teschner, rector of Christ and Grace Episcopal Church, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Virginia Beach or Outer Banks SPCA, or to the Herbert B.
