Mrs. Mildred Davis Clarke Coles, of 1142 E. Augusta Ave., Petersburg, Va., departed this life Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, Va.
She was born in Petersburg, Va., to the late Arthur and Alberta Davis. She confessed at an early age and was a life member of Oak Street African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. She graduated from Peabody High School in the Class of 1938.
Mildred was a proficient, experienced seamstress and was employed by Thalhimers Department Store as head alterationist until her retired.
She was preceded in death by her siblings: Edwina Pegram, Junius Davis, Ulysses Davis and Glaydora Harder.
Her memory will be forever cherished by her husband, Albert W. Coles; a son, Alan R. Clarke; stepson, James W. Coles; nieces, Brenda Chambliss and Rosalyn Thomas (John) of Boston, Ann Crosby (Terrance) and Vanessa (MacArthur) of Petersburg, Va.; several great-nieces and great-nephews; two godsons, Karon Winston and Scott Brown Jr.; her girls, Mary M. Fitzgerald (Horace), Mary Harriette Edmonds, Oriette W. Bellamy, Julia R. Bennett (Joseph) and Pheobe M. Brown; a host of other relatives and friends, to include Charles Hendricks and James White of California, Wanda and George Helms of Troy, N.Y., the Bennett family of Hopewell, Va., Ms. Nellie Boone of Maryland, Ms. Mary Wynn, Ms. Patricia (Pat) Bates, Wilbert Walker and Joe and Marian Moore, all of Petersburg, Va.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at Oak Street A.M.E. Zion Church, 25 W. Wythe St., Petersburg, Va.; the Rev. Dr. Rebecca Branch Griffin, pastor, eulogist. Interment to follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at the funeral establishment.
The family will also assemble 1:30 p.m. at 1142 E. Augusta Ave. and maybe contacted by calling 804-732-3030.

I'm sorry to hear of the family's loss. I worked at Thalimers with Mrs Coles and she always had a kind work when I needed it. She was the sweetie person. What memories I have of her. She will truly be missed.
