Shirley Ann Mason Nelson, 69, of Waldorf, Md., died on Feb. 11, 2013, at Washington Hospital Center (Washington, D.C.) following a brief illness.

She was born on Jan. 6, 1944. in Portsmouth, Va.. to William and Catherine Mason of Petersburg, Va.
In her early years she worked for C & P Telephone Co., but left to become a stay-at-home mother to her five children. She also worked in sales at the U.S. Air Arena. Later in life she became a Mary Kay consultant. She always kept a smile on her face and loved talking about Jesus. She was an active member of Evangel Cathedral Church. She also loved gardening, reading, listening to music, traveling, decorating, watching westerns and scrap booking.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Arthur of Waldorf, Md.; sons Gregory, Ernest Jr., Damon of Suitland, Md.; and daughters, Debra of Bowie, Md., and Shirley (Darnell) of Glenarden, Md.; her brother,s Llewellyn (Deana), William III (Georgia), Garry (Cookie), Wayne (Caroline), Glenn, Alfred; and sisters, Juanita Cameron (Carl) and Paula Woodson (Jeffrey). She is also survived by six grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at Evangel Cathedral (in the Chapel) at 13901 Central Ave., Upper Marlboro, MD 20774; phone, 301-249-9400. Viewing at 9 a.m. Service at 10 a.m. Internment will follow at Maryland National Memorial in Laurel, Md.
