Mr. Lewis R. Evans Sr. of 12211 Duncan Road, Petersburg, Va., entered into eternal rest on Thursday April 4, 2013, at his residence. Lewis was born in Mecklenburg County, Va., to the late Isaac Evans and Blanche Evans. He was educated in the Mecklenburg County Public School System. Lewis was employed at Petersburg Radiator for 20 years. He also worked at Dinwiddie Memorial Park and retired from Central State Hospital in Food Services.

Lewis loved to read the newspaper and to look at the news on television. He also was a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles football team.

Mr. Evans is preceded in death by a son, Willie B. Evans.

Left to cherish his memories: a devoted wife of 64 years, Mrs. Elnora Evans of Petersburg, Va.; five sons, Lewis R. Evans Jr. (Patricia) of Philadelphia, Pa., Keith L. Evans of Van Nuys, Calif., retired Command Sgt. Major Kenneth L. Evans Sr. (Colleen) of Petersburg, Va., Staff Sgt. David W. Evans Sr., of Petersburg, Va., and retired Master Sgt. Clifton L. Evans (Delores) of Richmond, Va.; one sister, Vanessa Gale Evans of Petersburg, Va.; eight grandchildren, Kendra Dade, Calandra Jones, Kenneth L. Evans Jr., David W. Evans Jr., Devon L. Evans, Dominick Evans, Dontel Evans and Jeleesa A. Robinson; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin and friends.

A home going celebration for Mr. Lewis Raymond Evans Sr. will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church of God In Christ, 233 Halifax St., Petersburg, Va., with the Rev. Jeffrey L. Dodson Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Dinwiddie Memorial Park Cemetery, Petersburg, Va.

Mr. Lewis will lie in repose one hour prior to service at the church.

A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Sunday, April 7, 2013, and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, April 8, 2013, at the J.L. Dodson and Sons Funeral Establishment, 25824 Greensville Ave., Petersburg, Va. The family is asking that relatives and friends assemble at the residence at 11:45 a.m. on the day of the service.
