On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, Alford, with a glowing smile on his face, said goodbye to his earthly family and friends and answered the call of his Heavenly Father.

Alford was born on Jan. 27, 1959, to the Rev. Pinkie Walker Hill and to the late Oscar S. Boyd. Alford began his education in the Philadelphia public school and graduated Dinwiddie High School.
Alford served in the United States Army until he was honorably discharged.
Alford worked many jobs, but the one he liked the best was at the Progress-Index until his health prevented him from continuing to work.
Alford, at an early age ran to the altar, declaring he could help Jesus. He was baptized and became a member of the 59th Street Baptist Church in Philadelphia. After moving to Virginia, he became a member of Gravel Run Baptist Church. He loved participating in Sunday school.
Alford leaves to cherish his memory: his mother, the Rev. Dr. Pinkie Walker Hill and stepfather, Larry R. Hill; a loving daughter, Paula S. Parker and her three sons, Gianni and Taeyon Gibson, and Kheiron Wood; three brothers, Larry W. Hill (Donna), Oscar Boyd Jr. and Brian M. Boyd; four sisters, Yvonne A. Hill (supportive caregiver), Idell Pearson, Deneen Swann (Jerome), and Angelette Foote; two grandmothers, Louise B. Jenkins and Ernestine Hill; one great-aunt, Ida Cohn; seven aunts, Janie Walker, Constance Coker, Pastor Sharon Peterson ( Emmitt), Susie Chavis, Hattie Mitchell (Robert), Shirley Hill (Roy) and Catherine Boyd; three uncles, Phillip Walker (Gloria), Joseph Jenkins (Shelia), and Graver "Timothy" Boyd; cousins with two nieces who always made him laugh and smile, Britney and Jada; two special friends, Cassie Banks and Kenny Edwards, and a host of loving nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends.
A special thanks to his caregivers, Dikita Walker, Yvonne Hill, Sheila Thomas, Nikitria Walker, Rita Walker, Andre Walker, Constance Coker, Sharon and Emmitt Peterson, and Desiree Dean and the staff of Gentiva Hospice and McGuire Oncology Team.
A funeral service for Mr. Alford N. Walker will be held at 12 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2013, at Gravel Run Baptist Church, 12512 Duncan Road, Petersburg, the Rev. Dr. Larry D. Brown, pastor, eulogist. The interment to follow at the Jones Family Cemetery, Dinwiddie.
