During the early morning hours of Aug. 22, 2013, God in His divine wisdom suddenly called home our loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and companion, Mr. William E. Weaver Jr., who was born on April 6, 1941, to the late William E. Weaver Sr. and Sallie M. Weaver. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearline Flowers Weaver, and granddaughter, Ryan Weaver.

William was baptized at an early age at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, Petersburg, Va. He was a member of Peabody High School, Class of 1961. He was a former employee of Brown & Williamson before joining the U.S. Armed Forces. Retired Sgt. 1st Class William E. Weaver Jr. served his country with a military career that spanned over 20 years of services.

He was a Vietnam veteran and served several tours of duties in foreign countries, as well as throughout the United States. After his retirement, he became a faithful employee of United States Postal Services for 13 years; then he retired once again.

Left to cherish his memories are a loving and devoted daughter who was his caregiver, Sharon Weaver-Choice (Kendrick) of Chester; loving and devoted son, who also helped in providing his care, Wayne E. Weaver (Yolanda) of Chester; one stepson, Bernard A. Flowers Sr. (Cornell) of Ettrick; four granddaughters, Brittany Flowers of Ettrick, Cierra Yates of Petersburg, Brianna Parham of Stony Creek and Kendra Choice of Chester; one grandson, Bernard A. Flowers Jr. of Ettrick; two great-grandchildren, Derion Yates and Jayziah Yates of Chester; one aunt, Florence Smith of Petersburg; four brothers-in-law, Willie Griffin (Teaner, deceased) of Petersburg, Stith E. Flowers Sr. (Diane) of Ettrick, the Rev. W. Stanley Parker (the Rev. Catherine) of Locust Grove, Va., Carlton Parker (Carolyn) of Stony Creek; a very devoted and loving companion, Ms. Carolyn Franklin of Richmond; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, at the First Baptist Church, 236 Harrison St., Petersburg, with the pastor, the Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Tillman, officiating. Burial with full military honors will commence at the Dinwiddie Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the residence, 14409 Bermuda Ave., Chester, and will assemble there at 1 p.m. for the procession on the day of the service. A visitation will be held from 6 to 7 on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
